Reliance Jio Infocomm (Jio) has rolled out a special offer for its 4G feature phone – JioPhone – wherein customers can buy the handset for Rs 699 during the festive period between Dussehra to Diwali. This offer is aimed at helping the Mukesh Ambani-promoted telco come closer to its 500 million subscriber target and get more customers move from a 2G platform to 4G.
“During the festive season of Dussehra and Diwali, Jio is making the JioPhone available for a special price of only Rs 699 as against the current price of Rs. 1500. This is a clear saving of over Rs. 800 without any special conditions like having to exchange your old phone,” said the telco in a statement on Tuesday.
Jio said it will offer data benefits valued at Rs 700. For first 7 recharges that the customer does, Jio will additionally add Rs 99 worth of data. There are about 35 crore 2G users in India today and Jio aims to get them onto 4G and eventually push them towards higher tariff order. The operator on Tuesday stated that seven crore 2G users have already migrated to Jio Phone so far.

By offering the ‘JioPhone Diwali Gift’, we are making an investment of Rs 1,500 towards bringing every new person from the Bottom of the Economic Pyramid into the Internet Economy,” said Reliance Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani in his statement.
